The right size
Measure your head circumference just above the eyebrows and ears. Ski helmets come in sizes 51 to 63 cm, usually in 3 cm steps with a dial adjuster. The helmet must sit firmly without pressing: shake your head and it should not move. Children grow; choose a helmet at the small end of its adjustment range.
With or without visor?
A ski helmet with visor replaces the goggles: ideal for glasses wearers and anyone whose goggles fog quickly. A helmet without visor pairs with goggles of your choice; make sure helmet and goggles meet without a gap on the forehead. Try both together in store.
Safety: MIPS and standards
Every helmet we sell meets EN 1077. MIPS is an extra layer that reduces rotational forces on the head in an angled fall. Replace a helmet after a hard fall or after five years.
Ventilation, weight and comfort
Adjustable vents keep your head cool in sun and warm in cold. A light in-mould helmet weighs 400 to 500 grams. Removable ear pads and a washable liner make the helmet suitable for spring skiing too.
Brands
Sinner offers complete visor helmets at a sharp price. Uvex stands for German safety and fit, with many kids' helmets. Bollé and Giro combine design with MIPS. Head makes light helmets for sporty skiers.
