Why an inflatable tent?

An inflatable tent (air tent) has air beams instead of poles that you inflate with the supplied pump. The tent is up in 10 to 15 minutes, alone and even in wind, and there are no poles to break. In a storm an air beam gives and springs back. The price is 30 to 50 percent above a comparable poled tent.

Which air tent suits you?

  • Family tent 4 to 6 people: tunnel model with standing height, two or three bedrooms and a living area; Kampa Dawlish, Vango Savannah, Bardani AirWave.
  • Compact air tent 2 to 4 people: for couples and weekends; Kampa Hayling, Vango Sherwood.
  • Vis-à-vis: bedrooms at both ends, living area in the middle; privacy for parents and children.
  • Polycotton (TC): cooler in sun, warmer in cold, quieter in wind, lasts decades; for southern Europe and long holidays.

What to look for

Take one berth more than your party; berth counts exclude luggage. Standing height from 200 cm, blackout bedrooms, sewn-in groundsheet, hydrostatic head from 3,000 mm for polyester and a pump with gauge. Spare beams and repair kits are available.

Kampa (Dometic) is the largest brand in inflatable family tents. Vango built the first inflatable family tent with AirBeam. Bardani and Nomad make polycotton air tents at a sharp price.

What if an air beam leaks?

Patch it with the repair kit or swap the beam; beams sit in sleeves and are replaced individually.
