Which bike carrier do you need?

A towbar bike carrier is the most used: it sits firmly, loads low and carries heavy electric bikes. A tailgate carrier is an affordable alternative without a towbar but carries less weight. What to look for

• Number of bikes: 2 or 3; check the maximum nose weight of your towbar (type plate).
• Electric bikes: at least 25 to 30 kilos capacity per bike and a loading ramp.
• Tilting: opens the boot with bikes loaded.
• Foldable: fits in the boot or caravan.
• Lighting and number plate: 7- or 13-pin plug and a plate on the carrier are mandatory.
• Tray width: wider trays for fat bikes and mountain bikes.

Frequently asked questions

Does a carrier with e-bikes fit every towbar?

Only if the nose weight allows the total: two 25-kilo e-bikes plus a 20-kilo carrier needs at least 75 kilos.

Can I open the boot with a bike carrier?

Yes, with a tilting carrier such as the EasyFold XT or VeloSpace XT.

Do I need a number plate?
