Your own skis or snowboard: better than renting
If you go on a winter sports holiday for more than one week a year, your own skis or snowboard pay for themselves in two to three seasons. More importantly, your own gear matches your level and your style, is well maintained and feels the same every day. At Kampeerwinkel Roermond you get advice from skiers and snowboarders, and we set bindings in our own workshop.
Which ski suits you?
- Piste ski (carving): narrow underfoot (65 to 75 mm), for groomed pistes and short turns.
- All-mountain ski: 75 to 90 mm underfoot; piste and now and then off-piste. The best choice for most skiers.
- Freeride and freestyle: wider than 90 mm or with a twin tip; for powder and park.
- Length: beginners chin height, advanced nose height, experts eye height; shorter turns more easily, longer is more stable.
Which snowboard?
An all-mountain board with a camber-rocker profile is the all-rounder. Beginners choose a softer flex and a length up to the chin; advanced riders a stiffer board up to the nose. Check the width from shoe size 44 and up (wide model). Bindings and boots must match: we set them up in store.
Ski boots: the most important part
A ski boot is bought to measure, not online by feel. We measure foot length and width, advise the flex (60 to 90 for beginners and recreational skiers, 100 and up for sporty skiers) and let you stand in them for half an hour. The liner moulds to your foot in the first few days.
Ski Doctor service
Our workshop in Roermond waxes and sharpens skis and snowboards, repairs bases and sets bindings to weight, height and ability (DIN value). New skis are set free of charge; skis bought elsewhere are welcome too.
Frequently asked questions
Which ski length do I need?
Between chin and eye height, depending on level and type. We work it out based on height, weight and experience.
How often do skis need waxing?
Every 5 to 7 ski days, plus sharpening at the start of the season.
Can I order skis online and have them set in store?
Yes, collect them in Roermond and we set the binding free of charge. See also ski boots, ski helmets and women's ski wear and men's.
