Gloves or mittens?
In a mitten your fingers lie together and keep each other warm, so a mitten is warmer than a glove. A glove gives more grip on ski poles, zips and your phone. If your hands get cold quickly, choose a mitten or a glove with a separate liner.
What to look for
- Waterproof: a membrane such as Gore-Tex keeps snow and wet cold out.
- Women's fit: women's models have slimmer fingers and a smaller palm.
- Neck warmer: pull a fleece neck warmer over your chin on the chairlift.

Which glove size do I need?
Measure around your hand just below the knuckles, excluding the thumb, and compare it with the brand's size chart. If you are between two sizes, go for the larger one: fingers get cold faster in a glove that is too tight.
